DEVOTION 200: “The Holy Spirit Our Inheritance” coming out of Josh. 13
Ephesians 1:13-14 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, [14] Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”
The Holy Land was a promise to Abraham and his biological children. It now becomes a reality. Each tribe receives their inheritance.
The Holy Spirit was a promise to Abraham’s spiritual children. It became a reality on the Day of Pentecost. Everyone received their own personal inheritance.
Just as God brought Israel to the promised land physically, God has brought His church to the promised land spiritually.
Joshua divides the inheritance.
Let’s read:
Joshua 13:1 “Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.”
We cannot exhaust the gifts of the promised Holy Spirit. He is a well that keeps on giving. There is always more room for the Holy Spirit to possess us daily. We must be drowned in the oil of the Holy Spirit and keep on drowning. He wants us totally off our feet; living at the Will of the Holy Spirit.
Ezekiel 47:3-8 “And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. [4] Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. [5] Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. [6] And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river. [7] Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. [8] Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed.”
That’s the progression of our walk with God by His Spirit. That we completely surrender to Him in oneness. Oneness with God means oneness with Jesus Christ.
Oneness with Jesus Christ means oneness with the Holy Spirit.
That means we surrender all our will, and live at the Will and command of the Holy Spirit. We don’t live by denomination creed and dogmas but by a surrounded will to the Will of the Holy Spirit.
We continue our reading:
Joshua 13:2-7 “This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri, [3] From Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avites: [4] From the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites: [5] And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal–gad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath. [6] All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth–maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee. [7] Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh.”
Just like the earthly Joshua divided the inheritance to the tribes, the Heavenly Joshua divided the gifts of the inheritance to His Church.
1 Corinthians 12:28 “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.”
We refuse our great inheritance when we refuse the Holy Spirit baptism. v
We continue our reading:
Joshua 13:8-13 “With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them; [9] From Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon; [10] And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon; [11] And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah; [12] All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses smite, and cast them out. [13] Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.”
We must allow the Holy Spirit to possess every part of our hearts. Anything we hold on to will become a snare in the life of the believer. Every land in our hearts must be possessed by the Holy Spirit.
We continue our reading:
Joshua 13:14-22 “Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them. [15] And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben inheritance according to their families. [16] And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba; [17] Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth–baal, and Beth–baal–meon, [18] And Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, [19] And Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zareth–shahar in the mount of the valley, [20] And Beth–peor, and Ashdoth–pisgah, and Beth–jeshimoth, [21] And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in the country. [22] Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.”
A prophet who had known God in the past, slain with the enemy because he stepped outside the Word of God, causing many to sin. His unbelief became a cancer to others.
Revelation 2:14 “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.”
If the Lord accounted righteousness to the faith of Abraham in His Word, He accounts righteousness to anyone who would express the same faith in His Word.
If the Lord slain Balaam for drawing His children into sin, He will likewise slay anyone who causes His children to sin. He is the same God yesterday, today, and forever.
We conclude our reading:
Joshua 13:23-33 “And the border of the children of Reuben was Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben after their families, the cities and the villages thereof. [24] And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of Gad, even unto the children of Gad according to their families. [25] And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah; [26] And from Heshbon unto Ramath–mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir; [27] And in the valley, Beth–aram, and Beth–nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, Jordan and his border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side Jordan eastward. [28] This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages. [29] And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh: and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families. [30] And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities: [31] And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families. [32] These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward. [33] But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.”
That’s the ultimate plan of God. That we inherit Him completely. God in fullness dwelling in man just like He was in Christ.
Colossians 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”
We are to become full sons and daughters of God, indwelled by all of God. That was why He went to the Cross; to give us all of Himself.
He did not go to the Cross to give us some of Him but all of Him.
All of God desires to come and dwell in His temple. We are that temple. He is our inheritance. We only have the deposit of that inheritance today.
Let the Word of God bring you to your inheritance. BELIEVE, and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The inheritance that keeps on coming in Christ!
