“Jesus Christ Our Judge”
Reference: Psalms Chapter 50
Before every judgment is an atonement.
Before judgment came to Egypt, there was atonement made with the blood of an animal placed on their doorposts.
Exodus 12:22-23 “And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. [23] For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.”
Before the Flood was redemption provided through the preaching and Ark built by Noah.
2 Peter 2:4-5 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; [5] And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;”
God is drawing men and women out of the coming judgment.
He is Jehovah Shaphat of the Old Testament . He is Jesus Christ of the New Testament. He is our Judge.
John 5:21-22 “For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. [22] For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:”
Jesus Christ is our Judge, Lawgiver, Defender, Salvation. Our King.
Isaiah 33:22 “For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.”
All the redemptive names of God applies to Jesus Christ. For Jesus Christ is God as Spirit, Son of God as flesh.
The Psalmist writes about God our Judge.
Let’s read:
Psalm 50:1-6 “The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. [2] Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. [3] Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. [4] He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. [5] Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. [6] And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.”
The Covenant of sacrifice is His finished work of the Cross. He is the Righteous Judge.
Revelation 19:11-16 “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. [12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. [13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. [14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. [15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
Today, He is the Lamb of God bringing Salvation to the Believer. He has taken upon Himself the judgement of the Believer.
Tomorrow, He is the Judge of the Unbeliever.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 50:7-17 “Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God. [8] I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me. [9] I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds. [10] For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. [11] I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. [12] If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. [13] Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? [14] Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: [15] And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. [16] But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? [17] Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.”
The Wicked (Unbeliever) despises the Word of God, and it’s the Word of God that judges the Unbeliever.
John 12:47-48 “And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. [48] He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”
He is the Savior of the Believer today but the Judge of the UNBELIEVER tomorrow.
We conclude our reading:
Psalm 50:18-23 “When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. [19] Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. [20] Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son. [21] These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. [22] Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. [23] Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.”
He showed the Salvation of God by shedding His blood on the Cross. To those who believe, He will receive. To those who believe Not, He will tear apart, even today.
Let the Word of God become your Salvation. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. He is our Savior as believers or Judge.as unbelievers. The choice is always yours, in Christ!
