“The Hunger For The Word Of God”

Reference: Psalms Chapter 74

The Word of God gives direction. Men and women are lost without the Word.

Between the time of the last prophet of Israel (Malachi) and John the Baptist, Israel did not know what to do. There was famine of the Word of God on the land.

When there is famine of the true Word of God in any land, people will eat whatever they find.

Hungry people will eat out of trash cans. They will eat any false teaching that comes their way. This is the birth of all cults.

Cults are a substitute for the true Word of God. Cults are ideas of men mixed with the Word of God.

Israel was so far removed from the Word of God that they rejected God when He stood in their presence.

John 8:39-42 “They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. [40] But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. [41] Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. [42] Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.”

The Word of God was standing in their presence but they did not recognize Him because they were so removed from the true Word by false teachings and teachers.

Jesus Christ (the Word of God) stands in our midst, teaching us today. Do we recognize Him?

Asaph was disturbed by the long silence of God.

Let’s read:

Psalm 74:1-9 “O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture? [2] Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt. [3] Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary. [4] Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs. [5] A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees. [6] But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers. [7] They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground. [8] They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land. [9] We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.”

The absence of the Word of God is the absence of direction. The Enemy thrives where there is no Word of God. It is the Word of God that defeats every plan of the Enemy.

We continue our reading:

Psalm 74:10-22 “O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? [11] Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom. [12] For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. [13] Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. [14] Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. [15] Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers. [16] The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun. [17] Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter. [18] Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. [19] O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever. [20] Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty. [21] O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name. [22] Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.”

God arose and pled His own cause. He came to earth as a man and taught His Word to the people. He redeemed them with His blood, and left them teachers (disciples) to continue what He started.

John 14:12 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

The Father took the body of Christ and placed Him at His right hand. He then sent the Spirit that was in Christ to the Church on the Day of Pentecost to do the same work that God began in Christ.

Mark 16:15-20 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. [16] He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. [17] And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; [18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. [19] So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. [20] And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”

The true Word of God continues today, confirmed with signs and wonders as Jesus Christ sits at the Right Hand of God.

We conclude our reading:

Psalm 74:23 “Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.”

The Enemy is effective where there is no Word of God. The Word of God defeats the Enemy in every arena, every square, and every storm.

The Enemy is defeated when we simply believe the Word.

Be filled with the Word of God. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The Word has defeats every storm, in Christ!
