“The Sides Of God”
Reference: Psalms Chapter 39
The Love of God is expressed in His wrath.
Ezekiel 38:21-23 “And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man's sword shall be against his brother. [22] And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. [23] Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD.”
To protect His children, God will destroy anyone and anything that stands in the way.
The Lord asked Saul to kill every Amalekite, including children.
1 Samuel 15:3 “Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.”
The Love of God for His children is expressed in His wrath.
God crucified His own Son.
Isaiah 53:10 “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.”
God expressed His Love for the world by smiting His own son.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
How much will He smite the ungodly who stands in the way of Him reaching His children.
Man has a choice, to accept His Love or His wrath.
David writes.
Let’s read:
Psalm 39:1-5 “I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. [2] I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred. [3] My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue, [4] LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. [5] Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.”
The frailty of man. We have only a limited time to accept or reject the Love of God.
Genesis 6:3 “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”
He is the God of Love when we receive His Spirit and the God of wrath when rejected in indifference.
We receive Him by receiving the Son He crucified. We reject Him when indifferent to the Crucified Son.
The Son took the wrath so that the believer may receive the Love of God.
The Love of God for the believer is expressed in the wrath of God towards the unbeliever.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 39:6-10 “Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them. [7] And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee. [8] Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish. [9] I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it. [10] Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.”
The chastises those He loves if they walk in unbelief.
Jeremiah 30:11-14 “For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished. [12] For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous. [13] There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines. [14] All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.”
Unbelief is always the sin.
Satan sold unbelief to Eve. Unbelief led to sin. Sin led to diseases. Diseases led to death.
The children of God are chastised whenever they walk in unbelief.
Numbers 26:65 “For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.”
For only Joshua and Caleb believed the Lord wholly.
We conclude our reading:
Psalm 39:11-13 “When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah. [12] Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were. [13] O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.”
Sin (unbelief) makes us strangers to God. Chastisement ensues to bring us back to faith.
Let your heart rest solemnly on the Word of God. Wholly BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. His wrath is expressed in Love, in Christ!
