“The Shepherd In The Person Of The Holy Spirit”
Reference: Psalms Chapter 23
Reference: Psalms Chapter 23
When the physical body of Jesus Christ was taken from earth, God sent His Spirit to be the Shepherd of the Church, to lead the Church unto all truth.
John 16:7,13 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. [13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
The Lord shepherds us today in the Person of the Holy Spirit.
Let’s read:
Psalm 23:1-2 “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. [2] He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”
The food and the drink of the Church is the Word of God. The Word of God is the Seed that grows in us. It must be watered with faith.
We need nothing else but the Word of God.
If we drink a good portion of the Word God (the still waters) by applying our faith to it, we will bear fruit of Him. We will do the same things He did when He walked on earth.
The Holy Spirit today guides the Church into all truth (the still waters) so that we may drink (believe) to continue the work of Christ on earth.
Just as God the Holy Spirit shepherded Christ on earth, He shepherds us today.
John 5:19-21 “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. [20] For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. [21] For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.”
God the Father shepherded the Son by showing Him what to do by the Holy Spirit. So does He shepherd His Church today by the Holy Spirit, to continue the work of the Son.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 23:3 “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”
The Church goes astray when not led by the Holy Spirit. Souls in search of God are in despair, remain lost because the Church is led by doctrines of men instead of the Holy Spirit.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
When He walked on earth, Jesus Christ promised to be with us and in us in the Person of the Holy Spirit.
John 14:18-20 “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. [19] Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. [20] At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.”
The Comforter (Holy Spirit) comforts us by His Rod and His Staff which are a type of the Word of God.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 23:5 “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
The Enemy of the Church loses his grip on sinners when the Church is led by the Holy Spirit. When the Church is anointed by the Holy Spirit, the cup of the Church overflows with souls.
Acts 2:38-41 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. [40] And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. [41] Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”
The Church wins souls to Christ when led by the Holy Spirit. When led by church doctrines and philosophies, souls simply join the church with a handshake or name written in a church book but not to Christ. They are not born again into eternal fellowship with Christ. They leave just as they came.
We conclude our reading:
Psalm 23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
The Church is followed by goodness and mercy when led by the Holy Spirit just as Jesus Christ was followed by goodness and mercy.
The Church will dwell in the house of the Lord forever because God is in His church just as God was in Christ.
Let the Word of God be His Rod and Staff that comforts you. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. He is doing the same things He did while on earth through the Shepherd, in Christ!
