Devotion 14
DEVOTION 14: “The Will of God Is the Word of God” coming out of Gen. 14
When one lives outside the Word of God, they are living outside the Will of God.
Lot, the nephew of Abraham did not consult the Word of God before he went to Sodom. He made the decision based on what he could physically see, that the place was well watered.
Genesis 13:10 “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.”
When we walk by what we see, hear, feel, or smell, we are not walking after the Word and therefore not in the Will of God.
Anywhere not in the Will of God exposes us to the attacks of the enemy who comes to steal, kill, destroy. We see this play out with Lot. He is not in the Will of God and the enemy has come. However, Abraham, a type of Christ, rescued Lot from the enemy.
Let’s read:
Genesis 14:1-12 “And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations; [2] That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar. [3] All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea. [4] Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. [5] And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim, [6] And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto El-paran, which is by the wilderness. [7] And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezon-tamar. [8] And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim; [9] With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five. [10] And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain. [11] And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way. [12] And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.”
When we walk outside the Word or the Will of God, we become an easy prey for the adversary; the devil.
Lot was an easy target for the enemy and he finds himself captured.
We continue our reading:
Genesis 14:13-14 “And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram. [14] And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.”
Abraham, the kinsman redeemer of Lot, a type of Christ to us, went to pursue after the enemy, to deliver us.
We continue our reading:
Genesis 14:15-16 “And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. [16] And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.”
Our Kinsman RedeemerJesus Christ came, and delivered all creation including us under the dominion of Satan.
Today He has sealed us in the Father from the enemy by the Holy Spirit, to be unsealed when we get to our final destination.
Revelation 5:2-5 “And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? [3] And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. [4] And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. [5] And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
We continue our reading:
Genesis 14:17-18 “And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. [18] And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.”
God the Father comes to meet the Son after He had delivered the world from the hand of Satan. He brings forth the Wine and the Bread.
Matthew 26:27-29 “And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; [28] For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. [29] But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.”
We continue our reading:
Genesis 14:19-21 “And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: [20] And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. [21] And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.”
Jesus was not interested in goods but in us. We are the reason he went to the Cross.
We conclude our reading:
Genesis 14:22-24 “And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, [23] That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: [24] Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.”
The Spirit of Christ in Abraham is expressed here. No man or woman can make us rich. We are only rich in God through Christ.
Let the Word of God bring you into the Will of God. Believe and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. Our Kinsman Redeemer, in Christ!
