DEVOTION 183: “The Circumcision of the Heart” coming out of Deu. 30
“And the Lord will circumcise your heart, to love the Lord with all your heart"
The natural man has an uncircumcised heart. The natural heart is callous due to original sin or fallen nature.
One cannot love God the way they ought to until they are circumcised; a work by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 2:29 “But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.”
God called Abraham and justified Him by his faith in the God’s Word (Christ). He then gave him a sign of physical circumcision for himself and all his biological children
For the spiritual children of Abraham, we are justified by faith in the Word (Jesus Christ and His shed blood), sanctified by faith in the Word (Jesus Christ and His shed blood) and circumcised by the Holy Spirit; a circumcision made without physical hands.
Colossians 2:11-13 “In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: [12] Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. [13] And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses.”
Today, the circumcised heart is the heart that has received the Holy Spirit by identification with Christ in His life, crucifixion, burial, resurrection, ascension, and now one with Him evidenced by the indwelling Holy Spirit.
The circumcised heart is the one sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
John 16:8 “And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”
Death is an uncircumcised heart; not sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
Life is a circumcised heart; sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
Let’s read:
Deuteronomy 30:1-6 “And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee, [2] And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; [3] That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee. [4] If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee: [5] And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. [6] And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.”
One is not living unto God like they ought to until the heart is circumcised. Our love for God is not something we generate, our love for God is generated by the indwelling Holy Spirit in a circumcised heart.
The indwelling Holy Spirit circumcises our hearts, and places God in our hearts. This is the Love of God in our hearts. We have become one with Him. His Love has become our love, We live because He lives in us. It’s nothing that we are doing. It’s what He’s done, and is doing,
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 30:7-10 “And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee. [8] And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day. [9] And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers: [10] If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.”
His Voice is His Word.
His commandment is His Word.
His statutes are His Word.
The indwelling Holy Spirit reveals His Word in our hearts, manifesting in our souls. This is the genuine love that God rejoices over; a love orchestrated by the indwelling Holy Spirit.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 30:11-14 “For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. [12] It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? [13] Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? [14] But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.”
How is it all this done?
By His Word. By simply believing the Word, the whole Word, and not making a creed or dogma out of it.
The Word says you must believe to be saved. Simply believe and be saved,
The Word says you must believe to be sanctified. Simply believe and be sanctified.
The Word says you must believe to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Simply believe to be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
The Word says these signs shall follow them that believe.
Mark 16:17 “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues.”
Simply believe, and the signs shall follow them that believe.
Don’t go by what some theologian has told you. Go by the Word.
The Word is in your mouth. The Word is in your heart. We don’t have to go beyond the sea to look for it or have some so-called theologian bring it from heaven to us. We simply believe what the Word says.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 30:15-19 “See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; [16] In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. [17] But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; [18] I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. [19] I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”
The dividing line is believing the Word or disbelieving it. It was the difference between life and death for Adam and Eve, and it’s the difference between life and death for us.
We conclude our reading:
Deuteronomy 30:20 “That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
To the biological children of Abraham, it was a Holy Land.
To the spiritual children of Abraham, it is the Holy Spirit.
John 14:17 “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
When a man or woman receive the Word and believe the Word, the Holy Spirit dwells with them, but the Holy Spirit must ultimately come and dwell in them in circumcision, making us sensitive to the Word.
Let the Word of God bring you the required circumcision with the Holy Spirit. BELIEVE, and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. Circumcision not made with hands, in Christ!
