Devotion 176

DEVOTION 176: “The Congregation of the Lord” coming out of Deu. 23

Every denomination believes they are the congregation of the Lord. Every denomination believes they have the right doctrine.
If the Catholic denomination is the congregation of the Lord, then the Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, and Pentecostal denominations are not. If the Pentecostal are the congregation of the Lord then the rest of the denominations are not.

There is a dividing line between the congregation of the Lord and the rest.

Let’s read:

Deuteronomy 23:1-3 “He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD. [2] A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD. [3] An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:”

The congregation of the Lord is not a denomination, sect or group. What creates a congregation of the Lord is His Word. If any individual, group or sect aligns themselves with the Word of God, they immediately become a part of the congregation of the Lord.

Ruth, a Moabitess crossed over into the congregation of the Lord by the Word. She left her religion when the Word got hold of her.

Ruth 1:16 “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.”

She saw the Word in Naomi. Remember God is His Word.

Rahab similarly crossed over by the Word.

Joshua 2:9-12 “And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. [10] For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. [11] And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. [12] Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:”

The congregation of God is men and women in line with the Word of God. Today, they are in line with the Word of God by justification, sanctification, and Holy Spirit baptism. They believe the whole Word and not just a part with some creed or denominational dogma. They have identified completely with Jesus Christ (the Word ) in His life, crucifixion, burial, resurrection, ascension, reigning in heavenly places with Him, and He now dwelling in them in the form of the Holy Spirit; the whole package.

If we simply believe a part of the Word,  we only have a denomination. Like Joshua and Caleb we must believe every Word of God to stand in the congregation of God, else we perish like unbelievers.

Numbers 26:65 “For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.”

Every denomination died on the side of the Jordan and did not come to the Promised Land. Similarly, every denomination is dead today in sin and trespasses.
Only individuals in various denominations who are standing on the complete Word have passed over the Jordan of the Cross.
They have identified with Jesus Christ in life, crucifixion, burial, resurrection, ascension, and now one with Him by the indwelling Holy Spirit. They believe not denominational creed, sacraments, and dogmas but just the Word.

We continue our reading:

Deuteronomy 23:4-13 “Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee. [5] Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee. [6] Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever. [7] Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land. [8] The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation. [9] When the host goeth forth against thine enemies, then keep thee from every wicked thing. [10] If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp: [11] But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again. [12] Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad: [13] And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:”

The child of God in Christ is to be clean not just spiritually but physically. We are to be healthy physically and spiritually. Our physical life should glorify God just as our spiritual life.

We continue our reading:

Deuteronomy 23:14 “For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.”

The LORD God walked among them then and walk among us today. He is the same God yesterday, today, and forever.

We continue our reading:

Deuteronomy 23:15-16 “Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee: [16] He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him.”

The sinner seeking refuge from the master (Satan) runs to Christ. Like Peter, we must be the doors to the Kingdom as Christ the Door dwells in us, and the gates of hell shall not prevail.

Matthew 16:18-19 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

We welcome the repented sinner and make room for them in the congregation of God by teaching them how to identify with the Word of God.

We continue our reading:

Deuteronomy 23:17-18 “There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. [18] Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God.”

The dividing line is holiness. We come into the congregation of Lord by repenting from our sins and lining up with the Word. Many are living in sin presuming they are in the congregation of God. A denomination ordains sodomite priests under the assumption they are in the congregation of God. God calls it an abomination. He is the same God yesterday, today, and forever.

The congregation of God are those in line with the whole Word of God, the same Word.

We conclude our reading:

Deuteronomy 23:19-25 “Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury: [20] Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it. [21] When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee. [22] But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee. [23] That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth. [24] When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel. [25] When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn.”

Again, the Word of God shielding us from sin. Not to turn the congregation of God  into a business; lending and taking interest or living off others.

Let the Word of God shield you from sin. We have the ability by simply identifying with the Word in His life, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and now one with Him by His return in the form of the indwelling Holy Spirit by simply BELIEVING.  Confess Jesus Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The Word, separating the congregation of the Lord from all others, in Christ!
