DEVOTION 173: “Wrestling Against Powers of Darkness and Spiritual Wickedness” coming out of Deu. 20

The child of God in Christ is in a constant wrestling with the powers of darkness (Satan and fallen angels). This war began in heaven when Satan rebelled against God.
Satan has since involved the children of God in this conflict. He was able to bring down Eve and Adam.
God gave man a tool against Satan and his powers of darkness from the very beginning. Man seeks to improve on things but God doesn’t. The tool God gave against Satan is the same tool today.
As man we look to improve from horses, to cars, to Airplanes and so on. God does not look to improve on the successful tool He has given man against Satan and his minions.

That tool is His Word.

If Eve stood on the Word of God by simply believing it, Satan wouldn’t have a chance. The same tool God gave Eve was the tool Jesus Christ used to defeat Satan when He was tempted. For the Word of God is the Double-Edged-Sword.

Hebrews 4:11-12 “Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. [12] For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Faith in the Word of God is the only thing that defeats the reasoning words of Satan. Unbelief in the Word of God is the only window for Satan to get to child of God.

The child of God in Christ, the spiritual seed of Abraham must know their enemies and how to fight them.

Israel, the natural seed of Abraham was exposed to their enemies, and God commissioned how to fight them.

Let’s read:

Deuteronomy 20:1 “When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.”

The Lord was with them. They were led by the Pillar of fire. He is the same Pillar of fire dwelling in us in the form of the Holy Spirit today. That cast out all fear.

We continue our reading:

Deuteronomy 20:2-8 “And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, [3] And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; [4] For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. [5] And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it. [6] And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it. [7] And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her. [8] And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.”

Unbelief is the cause of fear and faintheartedness. God always separates the true believers from the made-believers and unbelievers.
The true believer sees victory before the battle and it’s not distracted by a new house of a new wife. The eyes of the true believer is fixated upon God and His Word. They have no fear. They carry no doubts. They believe every Word God.

We continue our reading:

Deuteronomy 20:9-13 “And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people, that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people. [10] When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it. [11] And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee. [12] And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it: [13] And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:”

Then it was a sword according to the Word. It was a physical sword against the physical enemies. Today it’s the Word, the same Double-Edged -Sword from the beginning.

It’s the Word that defeats principalities and spiritual powers of darkness.

We continue our reading:

Deuteronomy 20:14 “But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee.”

If the strong arm of faith will get hold of the sword of the Word, we will eat the spoil of the enemy every time. Cancers and diseases will be screaming for a way out.

We continue our reading:

Deuteronomy 20:15-17 “Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations. [16] But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth: [17] But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:”

Total annihilation of every spiritual power of darkness is available to us today in Christ by the sword of the Word in a strong arm of faith in what He did at the Cross. The indwelling Holy Spirit quickening the Word in us will remind us all spiritual powers of darkness are already defeated at the Cross. We only have to believe and not doubt it.

The Word Old Testament) takes us forward to the Cross while the Word (Nee Testament) brings us back to the Cross,

We conclude our reading:

Deuteronomy 20:18-20 “That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God. [19] When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege: [20] Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it be subdued.”

Satan conned Eve to partake in his unbelief. Either we destroy the enemy or he will destroy us. We destroy Him by staying with the Word.

Let the Word of God shield you from the doubts, reasoning, and unbelief of the enemy. BELIEVE, and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. God has wrestled for you with His Word, in Christ!
