“God Of The Past, God Of The Future”
Reference: Job Chapter 29
God of the past does not benefit us currently. God of the future is of no help to us currently. He must be God of today or He is no God at all.
Many relate to God of the past. They pray to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God that was with Moses, Joshua, Daniel, and the three Hebrew children.
Many on the contrary relates to the God of the future. They pray to the God who would help them in the future. The God who will bring them to Heaven.
If He is not the God of the present, then He is not God at all, and His Word is not true.
Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
Either His Word is true or not.
If His Word is true, then He is the same God who was with Abraham with us today. He must be doing in our lives the same things He did in the life of Abraham if we are seeds of Abraham according to His word.
Genesis 22:17-18 “That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; [18] And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”
God’s Word cannot lie.
He is therefore the same God today as He was at the time of Abraham. God does not change. It’s man who changes.
Job recounts God of his past.
Let’s read:
Job 29:1-2 “Moreover Job continued his parable, and said, [2] Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;”
The patriarch Job failed to recognize God was preserving him in every step of this journey.
If we see God in us, and with us today, every problem will drop immediately.
We continue our reading:
Job 29:3-5 “When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness; [4] As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle; [5] When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me.”
God heard every word of Job because He was next to Him. The children of Job were in his absence but in the presence of God.
If we will recognize the constant presence of the same God today, sorrow will never be our portion. Anything that God allows to come our way is for our good.
Always!
We conclude our reading:
Job 29:6-25 “When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil; [7] When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street! [8] The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up. [9] The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. [10] The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth. [11] When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me: [12] Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. [13] The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. [14] I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem. [15] I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. [16] I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out. [17] And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth. [18] Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand. [19] My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch. [20] My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand. [21] Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel. [22] After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them. [23] And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain. [24] If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down. [25] I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.”
He is the same God today as the days of Abraham, Moses, Jesus Christ, and Paul.
As Abraham seeds ( in Christ) God is with us the same as He was with Abraham.
Galatians 3:29 “And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Better yet, He is in us.
Let the Word of God bring you to the God of today. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, in Christ!
