“O That One Might Plead For Me”

Reference: Job Chapter 16

This cry of Job is answered many years later.

Isaiah 53:12 “Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

He pled with His Blood, and continues to plead for men and women today.

Hebrews 7:24-25 “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. [25] Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”

Job cries for this Intercessor.

Let’s read:

Job 16:1-11 “Then Job answered and said, [2] I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all. [3] Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest? [4] I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you. [5] But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief. [6] Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased? [7] But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company. [8] And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face. [9] He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me. [10] They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me. [11] God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.”

Job felt what the True Redeemer felt.
Forsaken by man and forsaken by God. He has felt what we can ever feel.

Psalm 22:12-16 “Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. [13] They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. [14] I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. [15] My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. [16] For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.”

Bore the feelings of our infirmities.

Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Paid the price for Job’s redemption.

Pleads today for anyone who would believe.

We continue our reading:

Job 16:12-21 “I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark. [13] His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground. [14] He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant. [15] I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust. [16] My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death; [17] Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure. [18] O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place. [19] Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high. [20] My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God. [21] O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!”

Showed up on Golgotha’s hill and pled for Job and all who would believe.

That One is pleading for us today.

He is the One. He is Christ Jesus.

We conclude our reading:

Job 16:22 “When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.”

Job learned that his Redeemer actually is alive.

He remains Our Living Redeemer, standing next to us now in the Person of the Holy Spirit.

Just as present as He was with Abraham.
Just as present as He was with Moses.
Just as present as He was with the three Hebrew children.

He is present with you today.

Let the Redeemer hold your hand. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. He is pleading for all who believe, in Christ!
