“The Reproach of the Word”
Reference: 1 Samuel Chapter 29
The Word of God in a man or woman places them on an island of loneliness.
John 6:66-67 “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. [67] Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?”
The Word of God separates. The man or woman indwelled by the Word of God will be despised by the world.
Isaiah 53:3 “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”
Jesus Christ is the Word. He was despised and rejected, and so is any man or woman with the Word.
David is rejected by the Philistines.
Let’s read:
1 Samuel 29:1-6 “Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites pitched by a fountain which is in Jezreel. [2] And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: but David and his men passed on in the rereward with Achish. [3] Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, which hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell unto me unto this day? [4] And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: for wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men? [5] Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands? [6] Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.”
The lords of the Philistines favored David not.”
Why?
Because he was favored by the LORD of Glory!
If we are favored by the LORD of Glory, we should expect to be rejected by the world. It’s the same two spirits at war; the Holy Spirit against the spirit of Lucifer.
We continue our reading:
1 Samuel 29:7-8 “Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines. [8] And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
It’s not something we have done. It is Who is in us.
1 John 4:3-6 “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. [4] Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. [5] They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. [6] We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”
Same two spirits at war. The Spirit of God verses Lucifer’s spirit of error.
We conclude our reading:
1 Samuel 29:9-11 “And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle. [10] Wherefore now rise up early in the morning with thy master's servants that are come with thee: and as soon as ye be up early in the morning, and have light, depart. [11] So David and his men rose up early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.”
Achish saw God in David but rejected him equally.
The world sees God in the child of God but they reject him or her equally because it’s not the people doing the rejection? but the spirit in the people.
Let the Word of God bring you the Spirit of God. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The Word is a reproach to the world, in Christ!
