“The War of the Spirits”
Reference: 1 Samuel Chapter 18
The war began in heaven when unbelief (sin, iniquity, pride) entered Lucifer who was an anointed cherub of God.
Ezekiel 28:13-15 “Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. [14] Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. [15] Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”
The war continues today between the Holy Spirit and the Evil spirit of Lucifer.
The man or woman indwelled by the Holy Spirit (believer) is at war with the man or woman indwelled by the Evil spirit of Lucifer (unbeliever).
The war continued through Adam and the Serpent. He warred at Adam through Eve, and was able to contaminate Adam with unbelief.
The war continued through Abel and Cain. Abel the believer and Cain the unbeliever.
The war continued between Isaac and Ishmael. Isaac the believer and Ishmael the unbeliever.
Genesis 21:8-9 “And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned. [9] And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.”
The war continued between Jacob and Esau. Jacob the believer and Esau the unbeliever.
Romans 9:8-13 “That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. [9] For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son. [10] And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; [11] (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) [12] It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. [13] As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.”
Jacob the believer did everything to get the birthright. Esau the unbeliever despised the birthright.
Today, we know the birthright is the indwelling Holy Spirit.
The war continued between the nation of Jacob (Israel) and the nation of Esau (Edom). Israel the believer and Edom the unbeliever.
Obadiah 1:8-10 “Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau? [9] And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter. [10] For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.”
The war continued between David and Saul. David the believer and Saul the backslider (unbeliever).
Let’s read:
1 Samuel 18:1-8 “And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. [2] And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house. [3] Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. [4] And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle. [5] And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants. [6] And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick. [7] And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. [8] And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?”
Saul did not understand but the Kingdom was in David. The Kingdom is the Word of God. Jesus Christ is the Kingdom.
Luke 17:20-21 “And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: [21] Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”
The Kingdom of God comes and dwells in us when we receive the birthright of the Holy Spirit. When God took His Spirit from Saul, the Kingdom inadvertently had left Saul.
1 Samuel 16:14 “But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.”
The Holy Spirit (Kingdom) was removed out of Saul and an Evil spirit (kingdom) was placed in him.
When a man or woman rejects the Holy Spirit, God will provide an evil spirit to lead him or her.
David received the Holy Spirit (kingdom) and this is the war between the kingdom of David and the kingdom of Saul.
The same war that started between the spirits before creation.
We continue our reading:
1 Samuel 18:9-25 “And Saul eyed David from that day and forward. [10] And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand. [11] And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice. [12] And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul. [13] Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people. [14] And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him. [15] Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him. [16] But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them. [17] And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him. [18] And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king? [19] But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife. [20] And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. [21] And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain. [22] And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law. [23] And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed? [24] And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David. [25] And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.”
The war between the two spirits. The spirit of the believer and the spirit of the unbeliever. The unbeliever looks to kill the believer because of the Spirit of Christ in the believer.
The war continued between John the Baptist and Herod, Jesus Christ and Satan through sinful men like Judas.
Today, the war continues between the returned Spirit of Jesus Christ (the Holy Spirit) through men and women and the spirit of Lucifer (the Antichrist) through other men and women.
We conclude our reading:
1 Samuel 18:26-30 “And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired. [27] Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife. [28] And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him. [29] And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually. [30] Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.”
Like Esau and Saul, the carnal believer despises the birthright. He or she will even give it in exchange for a pot of soup. It means nothing to them.
The true believer on the other hand will do anything for the birthright. This birthright is the Holy Spirit.
That’s why Jesus warned them not to go and preach until they have received their birthright from heaven.
Luke 24:44-49 “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. [45] Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, [46] And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: [47] And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. [48] And ye are witnesses of these things. [49] And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”
The Birthright (Holy Spirit) makes the individual a true representative of God just like Jesus Christ. Without the Birthright, a man or woman is simply copying Christ. There is a big difference.
Let the Kingdom of God come and dwell in you in the form of the Birthright. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. Our Birthright is accessible, only in Christ!
