“The Religion of Micah”

Reference: Judges Chapter 17

Religion is man’s way of reaching God. It doesn’t work. Man can never reach God because of sin.

God has provided only one Way to reach man. That Way is Jesus Christ. For the blood of Jesus Christ is the only answer to sin.

The knowledge of God which came through His prophets is penned to scrolls and now what we call the Bible. Daniel read the penned books of Jeremiah for knowledge.

Daniel 9:2 “In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.”

One cannot have a viable knowledge of God outside what is provided through His prophets.  Jesus Christ is the ultimate Prophet of God..If the knowledge of God doesn’t match Jesus Christ then it’s falsehood. For Jesus Christ is the Word of God.

Micah, like many today, without the knowledge of God, comes up with his way of reaching God.

Let’s read:

Judges 17:1-3 “And there was a man of mount Ephraim, whose name was Micah. [2] And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, and spakest of also in mine ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it. And his mother said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my son. [3] And when he had restored the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, his mother said, I had wholly dedicated the silver unto the LORD from my hand for my son, to make a graven image and a molten image: now therefore I will restore it unto thee.”

The Mother is worshipping the Lord and making molten images at the same time. This confusion is because of the lack of knowledge of God. This is where many in the world find themselves. They are worshipping a god they know not.

John 4:21-22 “Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. [22] Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.”

They worship based on creeds and dogmas, and not according to the Word. That is religion.

We continue our reading:

Judges 17:4-6 “Yet he restored the money unto his mother; and his mother took two hundred shekels of silver, and gave them to the founder, who made thereof a graven image and a molten image: and they were in the house of Micah. [5] And the man Micah had an house of gods, and made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest. [6] In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”

There was no prophet to guide them with the Word. Everybody made their own path to God. Death, destruction, and enslavement by their enemies was the result.

Today, the Guide to the Word is the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the Word. If a man or woman is not in Christ with the abiding Holy Spirit guidance, death, destruction, and enslavement by the Enemy is the result.

We conclude our reading:

Judges 17:7-13 “And there was a young man out of Beth–lehem–judah of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there. [8] And the man departed out of the city from Beth–lehem–judah to sojourn where he could find a place: and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he journeyed. [9] And Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he said unto him, I am a Levite of Beth–lehem–judah, and I go to sojourn where I may find a place. [10] And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year, and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals. So the Levite went in. [11] And the Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the young man was unto him as one of his sons. [12] And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah. [13] Then said Micah, Now know I that the LORD will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest.”

Micah built his many gods, and bought his priest, and believed the LORD will bless it. Many are in the same condition as Micah today.

The true worshippers worship in Spirit (Holy Spirit) and in Truth (the Word).

John 4:23 “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”

Let the Spirit of God guide you unto all righteousness. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word. God has provided the only Way to Him; the Way of the Blood of Jesus Christ. God has provided only one Place to meet Him, and that is in Christ!
