Devotion 147
DEVOTION 147: “Our Vow and Union with Christ” coming out of Num. 30
As the bride of Christ, our vow to the Bridegroom must be solemn. Ruth made a solemn vow when she saw the Light.
Ruth 1:16-18 “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: [17] Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. [18] When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.”
Ruth saw the God of Israel in Naomi, so she made that sincere vow.
Salvation is a vow. It’s a vow of sincerity. We vow to identify with the Bridegroom (Jesus Christ) in His life, crucifixion, burial, resurrection, ascension, and now one with Him in the form of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.
We vow to make His Word our word; to be one with Him in word.
Let’s read:
Numbers 30:1-2 “And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded. [2] If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.”
When we confess Jesus Christ as our Lord, we are vowing to heaven and earth. The Lord holds us accountable to this vow, to our word. They cannot be casual words. They must come from a truly repented heart. It must mean we are sincerely forsaking the kingdom of the world to entering r into the Kingdom of the Lord.
We continue our reading:
Numbers 30:3-5 “If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth; [4] And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand. [5] But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.”
The biological father in Christ represents the Heavenly Father on earth. Therefore whatever he binds on earth is bound in heaven. It’s the same Key the Lord gave His children on earth.
Matthew 16:19 “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
That’s why the man or woman in Christ can pray with the sick, and they are healed. They can lead the sinner to Christ, and are saved. Because we become one in word with God when we receive Him as Lord.
The Key is the Word in us. The Key is God in us. The Key opens and closes doors to salvation, diseases, and Satan himself. The Key is God.
We continue our reading:
Numbers 30:6-7 “And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul; [7] And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.”
Today, we are the bride, and Jesus Christ is the Bridegroom. Our uttered vow to Him must mean the world to us. It must be of truth and out of a repented heart. It’s an eternal vow.
Our vow to Jesus Christ will forever stand. We are saved forever as long as we keep believing. We vow to believe Him, and He vows to be with us, and in us.
Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
We continue our reading:
Numbers 30:8-13 “But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LORD shall forgive her. [9] But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her. [10] And if she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath; [11] And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. [12] But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD shall forgive her. [13] Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void.”
God will forgive what Jesus Christ forgives, and will not forgive what Jesus Christ does not forgive.
Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. The Blood of Jesus Christ is the only way of forgiveness with God.
God has therefore given Him a name.
Philippians 2:9-11 “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
What Jesus Christ our Bridegroom forgives is forgiven.
What Jesus Christ our Bridegroom holds is held.
What the Blood of Jesus Christ our Bridegroom cleanses is cleansed.
All in His name.
We are forgiven in the Name of Jesus Christ.
We are delivered in the Name of Jesus Christ.
We are justified, sanctified, baptized in the Holy Spirit in the Name of Jesus Christ.
That’s the Bridegroom we are espoused to.
What a Name!
We conclude our reading:
Numbers 30:14-16 “But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them. [15] But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity. [16] These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father's house.”
The Lord knows our heart. He knows who means their vow and who doesn’t. If our heart is right, He will surely save us.
Let the Word of God be your vow. BELIEVE; and confess Christ the Bridegroom as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. What He holds is held, and what He forgives is forgiven, in Christ!
