DEVOTION 144: “The Inheritance” coming out of Num. 27

Before we can inherit Jesus Christ we must forsake all. We must forsake our thoughts, our plans, our families, and our lives.

The Rich young ruler could not forsake all, so he lost Eternal Life.

Matthew 19:21-22 “Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. [22] But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.”

For Abraham to inherit the Seed Who is Christ, he had to forsake all.

Genesis 12:1 “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:”

For the disciples to inherit Eternal Life Who is Christ, they had to forsake all.

Matthew 19:27-28 “Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? [28] And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

For the children of Isreal to inherit the Promised Land, they had to forsake Egypt, they had to forsake all their thoughts, plans, ideas, and take on the Word of God by faith. Those who did not believe died in the wilderness. But those who believed, like Joshua, entered the Promised Land.

Let’s read.

Numbers 27:1-4 “Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah. [2] And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying, [3] Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons. [4] Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.”

The daughters made it clear that their father did not die of unbelief but of natural cause of original sin. They were therefore ready for their inheritance. They have believed. They have forsaken all, and rightfully deserved an inheritance.

We continue our reading:

Numbers 27:5-7 “And Moses brought their cause before the LORD. [6] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, [7] The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.”

Likewise, if a man or woman will believe the Lord, and forsake all their ideas, thoughts, and plans, God will give him or her the inheritance of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:38-39 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

The Holy Spirit is the Promised inheritance, and we will not receive Him until we forsake all our unbelief and doubts.

We continue our reading:

Numbers 27:8-21 “And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. [9] And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren. [10] And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren. [11] And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses. [12] And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel. [13] And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered. [14] For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin. [15] And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying, [16] Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, [17] Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd. [18] And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him; [19] And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight. [20] And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient. [21] And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.”

Joshua is to take Moses’s place, and at his word Will Israel go out, and it his word they shall come in.
Why?
Because the Word of God was in Joshua. Joshua and God are becoming one in Word. The Word of God becomes the word of Joshua. This is God in a man.
When God was in the First Adam, he likewise named all the animals. At his word was the world to go, and at his word was the world to come in.
The Second Adam (Jesus Christ) demonstrated that. At His Word did nature go and come. The wind ceased when He said so. Death obeyed when He spoke. Blinded eyes opened at His Word. Leprosy had the flee at His word. Because God was in Him.

And if God is in a man or woman today, you can speak to diseases and they must obey. You can speak to death and it must give up its grip. You can speak to the devil and he must bow.

We conclude our reading:

Numbers 27:22-23 “And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation: [23] And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.”

God in the man Joshua.

Let the Word of God bring you into oneness with God. BELIEVE,  and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The same God in a man or woman, in Christ!
