Devotion 142

DEVOTION 142: “Death” coming out of Num. 25

Death (Going contrary to the Word of God)

He is the God of segregation. He has segregated the holy from the unholy.

Deuteronomy 7:2-6 “And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them: [3] Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. [4] For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly. [5] But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. [6] For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.”

An unholy alliance will always kindle the wrath of God.

Let’s read:

Numbers 25:1-3 “And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. [2] And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. [3] And Israel joined himself unto Baal–peor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.”

The child of God in Christ cannot have an alliance with the world without kindling the anger of the Lord.
He is a loving God but what makes Him so loving is His justice. If an action in one person provoked the anger of God, the same action today in another person will provoke the same anger of God. That’s the justice of God. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

We continue our reading:

Numbers 25:4-8 “And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel. [5] And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baal–peor. [6] And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. [7] And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; [8] And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.”

The only thing that stopped the plague of God then was judgment. The only thing the stops the plague of God upon sin today is judgement. That judgement was placed on Christ on the Cross. If an individual is not hidden in Christ, they are exposed to the same judgement of God.

We continue our reading:

Numbers 25:9 “And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.”

Twenty-four thousand died lost because they walked contrary to the Word of God.
Millions die lost today because they walk contrary to the Word of God.

We continue our reading:

Numbers 25:10-11 “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, [11] Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.”

Jesus Christ with the work of the Cross turned the wrath of God away from all who would take cover in Him —- by identifying with Him in His life, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and now dwelling in us in the form of the Holy Spirit.

We conclude our reading:

Numbers 25:12-18 “Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: [13] And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel. [14] Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites. [15] And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian. [16] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, [17] Vex the Midianites, and smite them: [18] For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.”

One righteous act by one man placed him in God’s covenant of peace.
One righteous act of any man or woman by receiving Jesus Christ as Savior will place them in God’s covenant of peace, for Jesus Christ is that Covenant of peace.

Let the Word of God bring you into the Eternal Covenant of peace. BELIEVE, and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. He has segregated the unholy from the holy, in Christ!
