“"Deceive Not Yourself," Says The Lord”
Reference Jeremiah chapter 37
They hearkened not to the Word of the Lord that came through Jeremiah. The king placed the prophet Jeremiah in prison because he reported the Word of truth. Fighting against the Word of Truth is fighting against God, for God is His Word, and His Word has a name. His name is Jesus Christ. You cannot win against Truth.
Let's read.
Jeremiah 37:1-2 “And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah. [2] But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.”
This has been Satan's ploy since the Garden of Eden. He is always in the mind of the unbeliever, blinding the man or woman in the blood of the first Adam with unbelief. The unbeliever believes the lie of Satan instead of the Truth of God.
We continue our reading.
Jeremiah 37:3 “And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.”
Why can't King Zechariah pray to the Lord himself? The first step to prayer is repentance from sin, and that's what the king refused. Repentance is to turn from the blood of the first Adam to the blood of Christ. Repentance is to turn from our own way to the Way of God, which is Jesus Christ. Repentance is to turn from our own word to the Word of God, which is Jesus Christ. Jonah preached repentance to the people of Nineveh. John the Baptist preached repentance. Jesus Christ preached repentance.
Matthew 4:17 “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
But they repented not.
Matthew 11:20 “Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:”
That has been the problem with man ever since the fall. They repented not, so they live and die in unbelief, wasting precious life in eternal damnation. All because they believe the lie of Satan to eat off Tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The same tree Adam ate off is what the unbeliever is eating off today.
We continue our reading.
Jeremiah 37:4-9 “Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison. [5] Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem. [6] Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying, [7] Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. [8] And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire. [9] Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.”
We deceive ourselves when we go contrary to the Word of God. The Word of God will accomplish exactly what He says.
We continue our reading.
Jeremiah 37:10 “For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.”
Even with all wounded men, the Babylonians will take the whole city of Jerusalem. Why? Because God says so.
We continue our reading.
Jeremiah 37:11-17 “And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army, [12] Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people. [13] And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans. [14] Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. [15] Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison. [16] When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days; [17] Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
The hypocrisy of the unbeliever! He is asking for a word from the Lord in secret, but pumping his fist against God in public. Jesus called them hypocrites.
Matthew 23:13 “But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.”
The same call is going to the world today: come out of the blood of Adam and receive Salvation in the blood of Jesus Christ. That says the Lord.
We conclude our reading.
Jeremiah 37:18-21 “Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison? [19] Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land? [20] Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. [21] Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.”
You can threaten the man of God, imprison the man of God, burn the man of God, or even kill the man of God. It won't change the Word of God.
Repent, come out of the blood of the first Adam, and receive Salvation in the blood of the second Adam. BELIEVE and confess Jesus Christ, the Word of God, as we've revealed Him from the first Adam. He knocks at the door of your heart today. If you will open, He will come in, save you, and give you a restful place of eternal life, in Christ!
