“The Spirit Of David”

Reference: Psalms Chapter 58

The Spirit of Christ in a man or woman causes them to pray for their enemies.

Acts 7:59-60 “And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. [60] And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.”

David asked God to break the teeth of his enemies.

Let’s read:

Psalm 58:1-6 “Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men? [2] Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth. [3] The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. [4] Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear; [5] Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely. [6] Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.”

The spirit of man is contrary to the Spirit of Christ.

The Spirit of Christ in a man or woman is love, even for our enemies.

The spirit of man fights back. The Spirit of Christ loved  first and last.

God is always Love. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Whenever we have hate for our enemies, and pray for their demise, we are in a different spirit, we are not in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. We are in the spirit of man.

We continue our reading:

Psalm 58:7-10 “Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces. [8] As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun. [9] Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath. [10] The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.”

Vengeance is always of the Lord and not man’s. The child of God in Christ is to pray for, and love their enemies.

Luke 6:27-36 “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, [28] Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. [29] And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also. [30] Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. [31] And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. [32] For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. [33] And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. [34] And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. [35] But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. [36] Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.”

We conclude our reading:

Psalm 58:11 “So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.”

God’s way is always right. Man’s way is always wrong no matter how good it may seem or sound.

The Way of God is Love.
