“The Unbeliever”
Reference: Psalms Chapter 14
For there to be a tree, there has to be soil for the tree to survive.
For there to be fish, there has to be water for the fish to survive.
For there to be hunger, there has to be food somewhere.
For there to be thirst, there has to be drinkable water somewhere.
For there to be sickness, there has to be healing somewhere.
For there to be death, there has to be eternal life somewhere.
For there to be creation, there has to be a creator somewhere.
The unbeliever does not believe in the Creator. The Word of God therefore calls the unbeliever a fool.
David writes.
Let’s read:
Psalm 14:1 “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
The unbeliever lives by the mind. They live by logic. They live by their physical sense as to .what they can see, hear, feel, smell or taste.
To believe is to live by faith. Faith is not physical. Faith is in the heart or spirit.
The unbeliever wants to see before they believe. The believer believes before they see.
God calls the unbeliever a fool because the unbeliever does not recognize they can never see God until they believe.
Without faith it’s impossible to come to God.
Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
We believe (come to God) with our hearts, not our minds.
Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
The mental believer is still an unbeliever. They have believed with their mind, and not with their heart. They believe when things are going well but do not believe when things are not going well.
Faith has nothing to do with how things are going or not going.
Faith is settled simply on the Word of God by our hearts. Faith has nothing to do with what we physically sense.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 14:2 “The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.”
We cannot understand or seek God by sensation. We can only relate to God by faith (believing with our heart).
The Lord looked down from Heaven to see if He could find faith on earth. Today, He is asking if He can find faith (those who have believed with their hearts and not their minds) on earth.
Luke 18:8 “I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
He found faith in Noah who built an ark with no evidence of a flood insight.
He found faith in Abraham who believed to be the father of nations with a barren ninety-year-old wife, and himself impotent.
Romans 4:18-19 “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. [19] And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb.”
He found faith in Daniel who couldn’t see how he would survive among hungry lions.
He found faith in David when the Israelite army was taunted by Goliath.
Faith has nothing to do with what we physically perceive.
We conclude our reading:
Psalm 14:3-7 “They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. [4] Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. [5] There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. [6] Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. [7] Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.”
Unbelief is the sin. Faith in the Savior is righteousness.
We become filthy in sin because we believe not. If we believe the wages of sin is death, then we will not sin. Whenever we sin, we must know we are in unbelief of the Word of God.
Israel will one day receive their Salvation (Christ) from Zion. Salvation is a person. His Name is Jesus Christ.
The believer has received Jesus Christ, and has passed from death unto life.
John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
The unbeliever (sinner) is already condemned.
John 3:18 “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
The unbeliever is already condemned not because of sin, for Jesus Christ has already paid for every sin. The unbeliever is condemned because they believe not for the payment of their sin.
Sin is simply to disbelieve the Word of God Who is Jesus Christ.
Let the Word of God settle on your heart. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. We believe with the heart, and not the mind, in Christ!
