“Love Your Enemies”
Reference: Psalms Chapter 79

The Psalmist walked in the light that he had. Jesus Christ came to explain the Word fully.

Matthew 5:43-48 “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; [45] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. [46] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? [47] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? [48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

We are children of God (Love) when we love our enemies. God displayed this Love by dying for those who hated and persecuted Him.
The child of God is perfect only when they receive the perfection of God.

Hebrews 10:14 “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”

Faith in the Perfect sacrifice of Christ makes the Believer perfect forever.
Faith in the Perfect sacrifice of Christ unites the Believer with God the Perfect One.

This perfection was not known at the time of Asaph. He lived under a different light (the Law).

Let’s read:

Psalm 79:1-4 “O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. [2] The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth. [3] Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them. [4] We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.”

Asaph is to love these people. He has no way of loving them except through faith in the perfect sacrifice of Christ which was yet in his future.
Today, with our unity with God through faith in the perfect sacrifice of Christ, we love our enemies and persecutors.

We continue our reading:

Psalm 79:5-10 “How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire? [6] Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name. [7] For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place. [8] O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low. [9] Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake. [10] Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.”

God is not looking to destroy the heathen. He is looking to save all humankind.

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

When we were all  sinners, Christ died for the world in Love.

Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

This is the perfect Love that we receive in our unity with God through faith in the blood sacrifice of Christ.

We conclude our reading:

Psalm 79:11-13 “Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die; [12] And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord. [13] So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.”

Declare His Love to your generation. Let them know God loves them and Has died for them. He stands waiting to reconcile them to Himself.

The Love of God shinning bright through those whom He has called.

Declare His Love. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. Love drew Him to die for us, in Christ!
