“Pray For The Wicked And Those Who Persecute You”
Reference: Psalms Chapter 10

When He was hit in the face by His creation, He never fought back.

Matthew 26:67-68 “Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, [68] Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?”

He prayed for His persecutors.

Luke 23:34 “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”

For Jesus Christ was, and is God. We exemplify the character of God when Christ takes His abiding place in us. We (the branches) bear the fruit (character) of the Vine (Jesus Christ).

The psalmist fights back at his enemies.

Let’s read:

Psalm 10:1 “Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?”

God is never far off. Today, we know. He is with us and in us in the Person of the Holy Spirit. We cannot perceive Him with our physical senses. We can only relate to Him through our spiritual sense of faith.

We continue our reading:

Psalm 10:2 “The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.”

God wants to save the wicked. He came to earth not to condemn but to save the wicked.

John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

God is in us when we love the world and seek their salvation. God will go any length to save the wicked, even to the length of an old rugged cross.

We continue our reading:

Psalm 10:3-11 “For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth. [4] The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. [5] His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them. [6] He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity. [7] His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity. [8] He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor. [9] He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net. [10] He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones. [11] He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.”

The wicked is not wicked because of what they do, the wicked is wicked because they believe not.
We sin because we believe not. If we believe Christ is in us and with us, we will not be involved in certain things.

The wicked is damned not because of what they have done but because of unbelief.

John 3:18 “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

We conclude our reading:

Psalm 10:12-18 “Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble. [13] Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it. [14] Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless. [15] Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none. [16] The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land. [17] LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: [18] To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.”

The humble is the believer, the one indwelled by the Spirit of Christ.

Philippians 2:6-8 “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: [8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

The humble is not condemned, not because of what they do, but because they believe in the one God has sent. The humble is the one who has received Christ.

Let the Word of God bring us to Christ. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. He came to save the wicked, in Christ!
