“Your Enemy”

Reference: Psalms Chapter 59

It’s common for many to think their enemy is the next man or woman. This was the thought of man until Jesus Christ came on the scene.

The scriptures must always be understood using Jesus Christ as the standard.

Man’s enemy is unbelief.
Man’s enemy is sin.
Man’s enemy is sickness.
Man’s enemy is death.
Man’s enemy is Satan.

Man’s enemy is NOT his neighbor.

Your boss or coworker may see you as an enemy because of their unbelief  but by faith you love them just like God loves them.

Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

We do not pray asking God to destroy our unbelieving neighbors but pray that God will save them.

Matthew 5:43-44 “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

On the Cross, Jesus Christ handled the enemy of sin.
On the Cross, Jesus Christ handled the enemy of sickness.
On the Cross, Jesus Christ handled the enemy of death.
On the Cross, Jesus Christ handled the Enemy Satan.

We have to handle the enemy of unbelief by coming to the Cross with Him.

Unbelief is man’s greatest enemy. Unbelief leads to sin. Sin leads to sickness.Sickness leads to death.

When we are baptized into the death of Christ by faith, the Believer dies to sin, sickness, death, and Satan.

Romans 6:3-13 “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? [4] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: [6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [7] For he that is dead is freed from sin. [8] Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: [9] Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. [10] For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. [11] Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. [12] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. [13] Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”

David prays for the destruction of whom he thought were his enemies.

Let’s read:

Psalm 59:1-5 “Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. [2] Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men. [3] For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. [4] They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold. [5] Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.”

The Mercy of God cannot be stopped by our prayers. God has Mercy even for the sinner.
God is mercifully waiting for the sinner to repent.

Every man or woman is born a sinner, even David. It takes the Mercy of God to wait for all sinners to repent.

Isaiah 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

It’s by His Mercy that we are not consumed.

Lamentations 3:22-23,26,31-36,40-41 “It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [23] They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. [26] It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. [31] For the Lord will not cast off for ever: [32] But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. [33] For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men. [34] To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth, [35] To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High, [36] To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not. [40] Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD. [41] Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.”

God does not hate man or woman.

John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

God hates unbelief, sin, sickness, and death.

Love is God, and God is Love.

Romans 13:10 “Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”

The Spirit of God in us will cause us to love the world and hate sin, sickness, death, and NOT people.

If we handle unbelief, Jesus Christ has handled Satan.
If we handle unbelief, Jesus Christ has handled death.
If we handle unbelief, Jesus Christ has handled sickness.
If we handle unbelief. Jesus Christ has handled sin.

We conclude our reading:

Psalm 59:6-17 “They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. [7] Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear? [8] But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision. [9] Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence. [10] The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies. [11] Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield. [12] For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak. [13] Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah. [14] And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. [15] Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied. [16] But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. [17] Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.”

The Mercy of God cannot be stopped by a prayer. For God cannot change.

Merciful is He always, even to those who hate Him.

Pray for those who hate you. Love those who despises you. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. Unbelief is your enemy, in Christ!
