“The Mercy Of God”
Reference: Psalms Chapter 62
God created man in His image. Man fell from that image.
God, brokenhearted, had to send the man and the woman out of His presence. Just like the loving father sending his child out of his house.
God had to do that because He is God. He could not go back on His Word that they would die if they ate of the forbidden tree. God is bound by His Word.
God, bound by His Word, does exactly as His Word says. Sin leads to separation from God.
He sends away His loving children (Adam and Eve) because of His Word.
God stands by His Word.
With man fallen from the image of God, He had to fall to the image of man to redeem man. This is why we know Jesus Christ is God. He is God becoming man to redeem man.
The Mercy of God is God becoming man to restore fallen man.
David points to this Mercy of God.
Let’s read:
Psalm 62:1 “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.”
Salvation came by Mercy. God becoming a man to hang on a tree.
What great Love. What great salvation!
We continue our reading:
Psalm 62:2 “He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.”
Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ the Rock. He is the only Rock to stand on.
He defends His redeemed children by covering them with His blood.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 62:3-6 “How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. [4] They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah. [5] My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. [6] He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.”
Fallen mam is standing on sand, tossed to and fro until Mercy came, until Salvation came, until there was the Rock to bring man back to his original estate.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 62:7-9 “In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. [8] Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. [9] Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.”
Vanity is man prior to Salvation—until we have accepted the Mercy of God.
John 3:3-4 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. [4] Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?”
Vanity is man until we are born again. Until then, we cannot see the Kingdom of God to enter in.
We conclude our reading:
Psalm 62:10-12 “Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. [11] God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. [12] Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.”
He renders Mercy to all men and women according to their faith. Their faith in the Blood of the slain Lamb.
God became a Lamb ,to be slain, to bring back His children to Himself.
That’s is Mercy!
Let Mercy be your portion today. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. Mercy rewrote our names, in Christ!
