Devotion 641
Jesus Christ The House Of The LORD ”
Reference: Psalms Chapter 122
God used to dwell in the Holy of Holies in Solomon’s temple. This was a temporal dwelling where the High Priest could come in once a year.
Hebrews 9:3-8 “And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; [4] Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; [5] And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. [6] Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. [7] But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:”
It was only a shadow of Jesus Christ the true House of God.
Hebrews 9:8:11 “The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: [9] Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; [10] Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. [11] But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building.”
Jesus Christ is the building of God not made with hands.
Jesus Christ is the Temple of God.
Jesus Christ is the Tabernacle of God.
Jesus Christ is the Embassy of God.
Jesus Christ is the House of God.
The Psalmist was glad to go to the house of God.
Let’s read:
Psalm 122:1 “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”
If going to a temporal building made with hands would make the Psalmist glad, how much more should it excite the man or woman who has entered Jesus Christ the true eternal Temple of God?
He is the Temple we walk in and are immediately cleansed by His Blood.
He is the Temple we walk in and immediately has answer to prayer.
He is the Temple we walk in and immediately restored into the image of God.
Solomon’s temple could not do that. Only the True Temple of God, Jesus Christ can did that.
Jesus Christ is the substance to the shadow of Solomon’s temple.
Jesus Christ is the substance to the whole law.
Jesus Christ is the substance to the whole Old Testament.
Hebrews 10:1 “For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.”
Jesus Christ was the good thing to come. He is the image of God. He has now come to restore man to God in perfection. We have a perfect union with God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the image of God and the image of man. God made man in His image, to be a place that God will dwell. That image of man is displayed in Jesus Christ.
Today, those in Christ has become the dwelling place of God. We have become the temple of God.
1 Corinthians 3:16 “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
Today, those in Christ are the image of God, the true temple of God.
We continue our reading:
Psalm 122:2-4 “Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. [3] Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together: [4] Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.”
Today, we give thanks not to a building or locality made with human hands but that we have entered in Christ the House of God.
Hebrews 10:19-21 “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, [20] By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; [21] And having an high priest over the house of God.”
We have been united with God the Creator of Heaven and Earth through Christ.
We conclude our reading:
Psalm 122:5-9 “For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David. [6] Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. [7] Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. [8] For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. [9] Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.”
Every good thing for man is found in Jesus Christ the House of God.
He is the answer to poverty.
He is the answer to sickness.
He is the answer to sadnes
