“The Reproach Of The Word”

Reference Jeremiah chapter 20

The Word of God is counterintuitive to logic. The logical man or woman is the one who lives by their five ADAMIC senses. Though they may not be aware, the father of the natural man is Satan.

John 8:43-45 “Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. [44] Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. [45] And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.”

To walk in the way of the Word of God elicits the same hate in the children of Satan. The same hate Satan has for God from the very beginning. It makes the believer a reproach to the logical or natural man. The natural man in Adam’s blood sees the Way or Word of God as nonsensical or foolish.

1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

Jeremiah suffered the reproach in stocks. The Apostle Paul suffered the reproach in stocks and beatings. Any man or woman that will proclaim the Word of God will suffer this reproach from the children of Satan. Stephen suffered this reproach with death through stoning. The Lord Jesus Christ suffered this reproach with beatings, back torn, and ultimate death through nailing to a tree.

Let's read.

Jeremiah 20:1-8 “Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. [2] Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD. [3] And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor–missabib. [4] For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword. [5] Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon. [6] And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies. [7] O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me. [8] For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.”

In fear, Jeremiah tried not to speak, but he couldn't. That's how powerful the Word of God is. You cannot keep it in. You cannot encounter the true Word and keep it in. You cannot keep in the Spirit in the Word. The Word has to come out.

We continue our reading.
Jeremiah 20:9 “Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.”

The Word in the heart of Jeremiah was God in the heart of Jeremiah. This is the Word that became flesh and dwelled among us. This Word has a name. His name is Jesus Christ. This Word is indwelt by the Spirit of God. When this true Word indwelt by the Spirit of God is encountered in the heart, then it cannot be kept silent. The Word will have to come forth, no matter the reproach. The true believer is always willing to seal his testimony of Jesus Christ with the believer‘s blood.

We conclude our reading.

Jeremiah 20:10-18 “For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him. [11] But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten. [12] But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause. [13] Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers. [14] Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed. [15] Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad. [16] And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide; [17] Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me. [18] Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?”

Jeremiah didn't know what we know today: that the reproach is never personal. The reproach is because of the Spirit and the Word coming forth out of the believer. There is a spirit already in the world, which is contrary to the Spirit in the Word coming forth from God through the believer. This is the battle. This is the reproach.

1 Corinthians 2:12-14 “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. [13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. [14] But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

This spiritual discernment comes from the fall of the first Adam. It can only be fixed by the man or woman leaving the blood of the first Adam and entering the blood of the second Adam, through a death and a resurrection with the second Adam.

Choose to come out of the blood of the fallen Adam. BELIEVE and confess Jesus Christ, the second Adam, as we have revealed him from the first Adam. There is a reproach, in Christ!
