Devotion 163
DEVOTION 163: “Circumcise the Foreskin of Thy heart” coming out of Deu. 10
The Ten Commandments were spoken to the Assembly amidst fire at Mount Horeb.
The windy sound amidst the same fire came to the Assembly on that great Day of Pentecost.
The evidence of being part of the biological family of God was circumcision of the foreskin of their genitalia, done with a sharp object.
The evidence of being part of the spiritual family of God today is circumcision of the foreskin of our hearts, done by the Holy Spirit. This is what John’s baptism unto repentance could not do.
Matthew 3:11-12 “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: [12] Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
We cannot claim Jesus Christ without the fire. God by the fire separates the circumcised from the uncircumcised.
None of the Assembly was exempted at Mount Horeb.
None of the Assembly was exempted on the Day of Pentecost.
None of the Assembly is exempted today.
Moses continues to recount the journey to the Promised Holy Land.
Let’s read:
Deuteronomy 10:1-4 “At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood. [2] And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark. [3] And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand. [4] And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me.”
He appeared to Moses as an unquenchable burning bush as He spoke His Word through the fire. The same Word led them through the wilderness as a Pillar of fire. He spoke the Word to them through the fire on Mount Horeb. They heard His voice in the fire on that great Day of Pentecost. He speaks expressly through the fire today.
1 Timothy 4:1 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.”
Note that the Spirit (fire) and the Word (voice) are always one. The Spirit expresses the Word. Without the Spirit, we remain in darkness to the Word and deaf to the Voice. When the Pillar of fire moved, they moved. When the Pillar of fire stopped, they stopped.
That was His Word.
That was His Voice.
That was Him.
The same unquenchable fire of the Spirit expresses the Word today and forever.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 10:5-13 “And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me. [6] And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his stead. [7] From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters. [8] At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day. [9] Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him. [10] And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee. [11] And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them. [12] And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, [13] To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?”
We keep the Word by simply believing it. If we believe the Word, we will act (keep) the Word.
Believing the Word is for our good. For the Word is God. We cannot claim to believe God and not believe the whole Word. God is His Word.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 10:14-16 “Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD'S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is. [15] Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day. [16] Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.”
Circumcision of the foreskin of our heart helps believe the whole Word.
John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
If a man or woman allows the fire of the Spirit to come in and circumcise, they would no longer be stiff-neck to the Word or deaf to His voice.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 10:17-21 “For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: [18] He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. [19] Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. [20] Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. [21] He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.”
He is our praise. He is our victory. He is our Word. He is our Savior. He is the Lord our God. The same yesterday, today, and forever.
We conclude our reading:
Deuteronomy 10:22 “Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.”
Our fathers started with a few thousands on the Day of Pentecost. Today, millions are shouting glory by the Spirit to His Name.
God over you in the Pillar of fire.
God with you in Jesus Christ, the Word.
God in you in the form of the Holy Spirit.
Same God above you, with you, and in you.
Let the Word of God draw you to sing glory. BELIEVE, and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The Word comes through the fire of the Spirit, in Christ!
