DEVOTION 159: “Possessing It All” coming out of Deu. 6
2 Corinthians 6:8-10 “By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; [9] As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; [10] As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.”
In Christ, we possess the full inheritance of God. He gave us all that he possesses when He went to the Cross.
We even possess death. We have power over death. The sting of death is removed. We have victory over death. We possess sin, hell, and the grave.
Today, we are journeying into a land of immortality. A land that Jesus Christ has possessed for us. He showed us the evidence in His resurrection.
Like Joshua, He has gone to the land and come back with the evidence to show the people that it was a good land; a land flowing with milk and honey. Jesus Christ in His resurrection from the grave has shown us the evidence in the form of the Holy Spirit — the Spirit of milk and honey.
This is our evidence.
This is our inheritance.
This is our earthly destination.
This is the land of our possession.
Now we have the evidence that we live after death; spiritually and physically.
None of these things possesses us but we possess them. It’s the earnest of the inheritance.
In sin we lived before, but when we died with Him and resurrected with Him, now we have power over death, hell, and the grave.
He has raised us from death of all illnesses, death of all defeat, and death of all confusion.
We possess physical and spiritual death. When we identified with Him in His resurrection, we possessed spiritual death. When we return with Him in our glorified bodies, we would possess physical death.
When we identify with Him in His ascension, reigning with Him in Heavenly places, we become possessors of His kingdom, reigning with Him.
When we identify with Him with the indwelling Holy Spirit, we become possessors of all things in heaven and on earth.
Moses brings the people to the brink of their possession. He tells them how to possess it.
Let’s read:
Deuteronomy 6:1 “Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:”
Just like we possess our inheritance by faith, Israel will have to possess the Promised Holy Land by faith in the Word.
It’s only by the Word that they can keep the possession. Likewise, it’s only by faith in the Word that we keep the possession. Remember Jesus Christ is the Word. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 6:2 “That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.”
Believing is the keeping of the Word. By staying with the Word, the blessing is everlasting.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 6:3 “Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it ; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.”
The Word is the Seed. It’s the Seed that brings this mighty increase.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 6:4-6 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord : [5] And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. [6] And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:”
The Seed-Word in our hearts is the transforming power, transforming us to become just like the Word.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 6:7-10 “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. [8] And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. [9] And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. [10] And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not.”
We possessed it not by anything we do but by simply believing in His Word. We take Him at His Word.
We continue our reading:
Deuteronomy 6:11-19 “And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; [12] Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. [13] Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. [14] Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you; [15] (For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. [16] Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. [17] Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee. [18] And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord : that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, [19] To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the Lord hath spoken.”
It was then the spoken Word. Today, it’s the written Word, Living Word in the form of the Holy Spirit in our hearts— the end of the same Seed.
We conclude our reading:
Deuteronomy 6:20-25 “And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded you? [21] Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: [22] And the Lord shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes: [23] And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers. [24] And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. [25] And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.”
Staying with the Word was their righteousness. We stay with the Word by believing the Word. This is our righteousness; comes only be faith (believing) in the Word.
Let the Word of God bring you to possess it all. BELIEVE, and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. Even death is possessed, in Christ!
