Devotion 40

DEVOTION 40: “God Is His own Interpreter” coming out of Gen. 40

Interpretation of dreams comes from the Lord through the child of the Spirit. God gives dreams, and He is the only One that has the interpretation. God gave His Word and He is the only Interpreter of His Word.

He said a virgin shall conceive. He interpreted that by actually having a virgin (Mary) conceive. By his interpretation, Joseph was able to prophesy what was going to happen in three days. God giving His Word through dreams, and God interpreting His Word through His prophet Joseph. By his dreams, Joseph was also able to prophesy what is going to happen in the future between him and his brothers.

Genesis 37:9-10 “And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. [10] And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?”

Again, God giving His Word in a dream and interpreting (fulfilling) His Word many years later.

Joseph as a prophet was pointing to Jesus Christ the Ultimate Prophet (Mouthpiece) of God. Jesus Christ told them exactly how His death and resurrection will take place.

John 2:18-19 “Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? [19] Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

The sign of God is always with His prophet.

Abraham was a prophet, Isaac was a prophet, Jacob was a prophet, and now the prophet Joseph, all pointing to Jesus Christ.

Let’s read:

Genesis 40:1-5 “And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt. [2] And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers. [3] And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound. [4] And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward. [5] And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.”

They both dreamed the same night. Cannot be a coincidence. The Word of God coming to the mind of even heathens.

The Word of God comes to millions today, but they cannot understand or interpret it. It takes the prophet of God to interpret the Word. That Prophet today is the Holy Spirit. You resist the Holy Spirit Baptism and you are lost in the Word.

We continue our reading:

Genesis 40:6-8 “And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad. [7] And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? [8] And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.”

The prophet Joseph was correct. Only God can interpret His Word. And He does that through His prophets; Abraham through John the Baptist, and ultimately Jesus Christ, Who today dwells in us in the Form of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ in the Form of the Holy Spirit is our Prophet and Interpreter today!

Hebrews 1:1-2 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, [2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.”

He went to Heaven and returned in the Form of the Holy Spirit. He is our Interpreter or Light of the hour today.

We continue our reading:

Genesis 40:9-22 “And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me; [10] And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes: [11] And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand. [12] And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days: [13] Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler. [14] But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house: [15] For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon. [16] When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head: [17] And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head. [18] And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days: [19] Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee. [20] And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants. [21] And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand: [22] But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.”

How could Joseph interpret their dreams?

Because he wore the coat of many colors, a type of the rainbow, a type of the many shades of the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 4:2-3  “And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. [3] And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.”

Today, the Same Holy Spirit interprets the Word of God.

John 14:17,25-26 “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. [25] These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. [26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

Without the indwelling Holy Spirit, a man or woman is in darkness to the Word.

We conclude our reading:

Genesis 40:23 “Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.”

The chief butter may have forgotten Joseph but God did not forget His prophet. Let the Word of God bring you into oneness with God. By one Spirit we are baptized into Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:13 “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”

No exceptions.

Believe and confess Christ as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. He interprets His Word by the One Holy Spirit, in Christ!
