Devotion 13
DEVOTION 13: “The Called-out” coming out of Gen. 13
God will now have to find a new Adam (Jesus Christ), and a new Eve (the church) to bear children unto Him, and He will do it through this man (Abraham).
Jesus Christ is the Seed of Abraham, and the Church is the spiritual seed of Abraham through our marriage with Christ.
Galatians 3:7-9 “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. [8] And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. [9] So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.”
Note that the Church came through the Spiritual seed (Jesus Christ) of Abraham while Israel came through the physical seed (Isaac) of Abraham.
The Church is the called-out by God. It’s an individual call. God does not call in groups. The Bride (Church) is made up of individuals in different places and denominations called-out, prepared for the coming of the Lord (the Bridegroom)
God called one man, Abraham, and he responded to the call. It wasn’t Abraham choosing God but God choosing Abraham in Christ.
Abraham is now separated from anything and everything unto God. He is set apart (sanctified) unto God.
Let’s read:
Genesis 13:1 “And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.”
The call of God is always individual. God does not call groups, organizations or individuals. God calls each person individually.
God called Abraham and not Lot. Through the call of Abraham, many will be blessed including Sarai and Lot but the call was to Abraham.
God does not call churches, denominations or religious organizations. He calls a person.
We continue our reading:.
Genesis 13:2-7 “And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. [3] And he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Hai; [4] Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord. [5] And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. [6] And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. [7] And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.”
There will be strife between the man called by God and all imposters. One cannot imitate the call of God. You are either called or you are not. You either have the Word of God or you don’t.
We continue our reading:
Genesis 13:8-14 “And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren. [9] Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left. [10] And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. [11] Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. [12] Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. [13] But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. [14] And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:”
God is about separation. He appeared to Abraham after Lot has separated. When God calls a man, He separates them from everything else unto Himself. If a person loves the World, God has not called them.
1 John 2:15 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
It’s a total separation. Nothing in this world is attractive to the man or woman called-out by God.
We conclude our reading:
Genesis 13:15-18 “For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. [16] And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. [17] Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. [18] Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord.”
I will give you, Abraham, the land. Not to a group but to Abraham, and not to his seeds but his Seed (singular).
The call is always personal.
Let the Word of God separate you. Believe and confess Christ as we’ve traced Him from the First Adam. He is calling you out of everything else, in Christ!
