Devotion 3
DEVOTION 3: “The Word of God vs the Words of Satan” coming out of Gen. 3
The Word of God is a path. A path the places one in line with God. The words of Satan is similarly a path. A path that places one out of line with God. Life (eternal) is simply being in line with God through His Word. Death is simply being out of line with the Word of God. The path of Satan leads to another kingdom.
Isaiah 14:12-14 says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! [13] For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: [14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”
This path of Satan puts an individual exactly at odds with the Path of God. The results of the path of Satan is not an established kingdom but hell.
Isaiah 14:15-16 says, “Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. [16] They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms.”
And such is the end of every man or woman who walks not in the Path of the Word of God.
Paul saw the path of Satan and wrote about it.
2 Thessalonians 2:3-6 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; [4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. [5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? [6] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.”
The temptation of the path of Satan was not limited to Adam and Eve but to all men and women. Jesus Christ as a man was tempted with the path (words) of Satan.
Matthew 4:3-4 “And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. [4] But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
The power of Satan is in his words. The power of God is His Word.
Adam and Eve are tempted with the path of Satan.
We read:
Genesis 3:1 “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
Satan has no new words. He only poisons the seed (the Word of God) with unbelief so that the Seed will not bear fruit of His kind. Satan wants men and women to believe him. When you believe the words of Satan which are simply perverted Word of God, you automatically do not believe the Word of God. The words of Satan are so religious, and impactful works, and so close to the Word and Works of God that it will even deceive the honest and true believer.
Matthew 24:24 “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
We continue our reading:
Genesis 3:2-3 “And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: [3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”
The woman added to the Word. She stepped outside the bounds of the Word. Compare her words to the Word of God and recognize the Word of God did not mention touching.
Genesis 2:16-17 “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: [17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Adding to the Word of God is just as dangerous as taking away from the Word.
Revelation 22:19 “And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
The Word of God cannot be interpreted by man, not subjected to our own thoughts and ideas. The Word of God is revealed and interpreted only by the Holy Spirit dwelling in the soul of the reader or hearer.
Revelation 3:22 “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”
The Holy Spirit is the one that reveals (makes one to hear and understand the Word). The Holy Spirit and the Word are One.
We continue our reading:
Genesis 3:4-5 “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: [5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
The path of Satan is reasoning and understanding which is contrary to faith. We receive the Word of God and simply believe it. Satan presents very similar words to our reasoning and not our faith. The moment we begin to reason the Word of God, our faith in the Word is quenched.
We continue our reading:
Genesis 3:6-7 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. [7] And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.”
When she stepped out of faith in the Word of God to reasoning the Word of God, she immediately stepped out of line with God because God is His Word. She immediately stepped out of the innocence cover of the Word of God over her conscience. She became conscientious of her nakedness like that child who now knows sin and have become conscious of their nakedness.
Unlike the conscience of Adam and Eve covered by the Holiness of the Word of God, the conscience of men and women in this age are covered by the lust of Satan, that they are unaware of their nakedness and blindness.
Revelation 3:17 “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.”
It’s one thing to know you are naked and blind. It will prompt you to seek help. It’s another thing if you are unaware of your nakedness and blindness. You will not receive help even when provided.
We continue our reading:
Genesis 3:8-10 “And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. [9] And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? [10] And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
You step outside the Word of God and you are immediately at odds with God. The Voice (Word) of God became a terror to Adam and Eve. They began to walk by reasoning. They tried to run from the Word (voice) of God which is always internal and not external.
One cannot run from what’s inside their soul. One cannot quench it. All one can do is fight it. The fight becomes so overwhelming that many take to suicide ( a deeper deception of Satan).
We continue our reading:
Genesis 3:11-15 “And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? [12] And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. [13] And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. [14] And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: [15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
The bruising of the head of Satan (the work of the Cross) is how the Word of God (Jesus Christ, the Seed of the woman) destroyed Satan, to set free all the captives of Satan (mankind) from death due to sin.
Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”
We continue our reading:
Genesis 3:16-19 “Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. [17] And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; [18] Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; [19] In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
We step outside the Word of God, and we enter into a relationship with God based on death. Death to joy, death to the works of our hands, and ultimately eternal separation from God.
We continue our reading:
Genesis 3:20-21 “And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. [21] Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”
A temporary external cover until they could receive the ultimate over of God in Christ.
The blood of animals (bulls and goats) only provided a temporary cover for sin. It could not purge sin from the consciences of men and women. It could not bridge men and women back to God. It wasn’t until the Blood of Jesus Christ was spilled (the bruising of the head of Satan) that the consciences of men and women who believed in the Word of God (Jesus Christ) were purged. They received the permanent innocence cover of their nakedness, no longer attracted to sin.
1 John 2:14-15 “I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. [15] Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
We overcome the wicked one simply by allowing the Word to abide in us. We have no more attraction to the world (Satan).
We conclude our reading:
Genesis 3:22-24 “And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: [23] Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. [24] So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
Sin (unbelief of the Word of God) put the man and woman at odds with God. They have lost the beautiful garden of God where there was no sickness or death for outside the garden, where there is chaos, hardship, sickness and death.
The man and his bride lost the Word of God and their headquarters until a bridge is built back to Eden through Christ (the Word of God) after Satan (their capture) is bruised and overcome.
Let this Word of God dwell perfectly in your soul. Let it abide in you totally and completely. Let the Seed grow in you continually. That’s how we stay as overcomers of the evil and deceptive words (Satan) in Christ!
The Word of God is a path. A path the places one in line with God. The words of Satan is similarly a path. A path that places one out of line with God.
