“He Defended Not Himself”

Reference: Job Chapter 21

Jesus Christ, Our Heavenly Job, did not defend Himself.

Isaiah 53:7 “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”

He defend not Himself to the Chief Priest.

Matthew 27:12  “And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

He defend not Himself to Pilate.

Matthew 27:13-14 “Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? [14] And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.”

He defended not Himself against Barrabas

Matthew 27:26 “Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.”

He defended not Himself against a band of soldiers.

Matthew 27:27-28 “Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. [28] And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.”

He defended not Himself against the mob.

Matthew 26:53 “Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?”

He defended not Himself against spit or shame.

Matthew 27:30-31 “And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. [31] And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.”

He defended not Himself against crucifixion.

Luke 23:33-34 “And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. [34] Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”

He defended not Himself so that He would defend us in Christ.

Job defends himself.

Let’s read:

Job 21:1-3 “But Job answered and said, [2] Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations. [3] Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.”

We are poor defenders of ourselves. The Lord promises to give us the Word to defend us.

Matthew 10:19-20 “But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. [20] For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.”

The Word is always our defender.

We continue our reading:

Job 21:4-27 “As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled? [5] Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth. [6] Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh. [7] Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power? [8] Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. [9] Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. [10] Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf. [11] They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. [12] They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. [13] They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. [14] Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. [15] What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? [16] Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me. [17] How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger. [18] They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away. [19] God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it. [20] His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty. [21] For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst? [22] Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high. [23] One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. [24] His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow. [25] And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure. [26] They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them. [27] Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.”

Complaint whether to God or man is a sign of unbelief. We must believe God in all things.

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

We stand on His Word.
Nothing happens to the child of God not known prior by the Father. He works, and allows everything for our good.

1 Corinthians 10:9-10 “Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. [10] Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.”

Never murmur. Never complain. Just believe.

We conclude our reading:

Job 21:28-34 “For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked? [29] Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens, [30] That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. [31] Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done? [32] Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb. [33] The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him. [34] How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?”

Man alone cannot comfort man. There One Comforter. His Name is God the Holy Spirit.  He comforts not in falsehood but in truth.

Let the Word of God take away every murmur or complaint. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. He defended not Himself so that He will defend us, in Christ!
