“The Way Of The Lord”

Reference: 2 Chronicles Chapter 27

The Lord has prepared one way for the Church to live. Any other way is a way of death.

The Church is typified as sheep, and needs to be led by a shepherd. The Shepherd leads the sheep to and from the Pasture and the Still Waters.

Psalm 23:1-2 “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. [2] He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”

The sheep has no way of going to and from the Pasture and Still Waters. The sheep must be led.

The Church has no way of finding the Pasture and the Still Waters. We must be led.

When Christ lived on earth in a physical body, He led the Church. Today, Jesus Christ is not in a physical body on earth.  He sits at the right hand of the Father, making intercessions for the Church. But before He ascended, He promised the  Church a Shepherd. That Shepherd is the Holy Spirit.

John 16:12-15 “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. [13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. [14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. [15] All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”

The Shepherd of the Church is not a man or woman.
The Shepherd of the Church is not a denomination.
The Shepherd of the Church is not a board of directors.
The Shepherd of the Church is not even the Bible though the Holy Spirit leads us to the Truth which is the Word (the Bible).

The Shepherd of the Church is the Living Holy Spirit.

He teaches the Word (the pasture of the Church) . He guides us into all Truth. He is called the Spirit of Truth.

He teaches the things of Jesus Christ. He leads and guides the Church the Way to the Still Waters.

Jotham became mighty because he prepared his way before the Lord

Let’s read:

2 Chronicles 27:1-6 “Jotham was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok. [2] And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the LORD. And the people did yet corruptly. [3] He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much. [4] Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers. [5] He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third. [6] So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.”

God in sundry times led His people by prophets.

Hebrews 1:1-2 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, [2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;”

Jotham was mighty because he was obedient to the Way of God. Today, we know that Way of God is the Word.

Jesus Christ is the Way. Jesus Christ is the Word.

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

The Church will be mighty only by going the Way of the Lord. We can only go the Way of the Lord when we are led by the Shepherd; the Holy Spirit.

We conclude our reading:

2 Chronicles 27:7-9 “Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. [8] He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. [9] And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.”

Jotham was mighty but could not overcome that ultimate enemy. That ultimate enemy of death.

But we know there is One mightier than death. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the One the Holy Spirit leads us to. So we can say with Paul that death, where is your sting?

1 Corinthians 15:55-57 “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? [56] The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. [57] But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

O grave, where is your victory?

Let the Shepherd guide you to the Still Waters. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, even victory over death, in Christ!
