“The Bluff Of Satan”
Reference: Job Chapter 7
Satan is a defeated foe. He will bluff with empty threats. He may threat to kill and destroy. Yet, he is only allowed by God as long as our sins are covered by the blood of the Lamb.
In Christ, we have power over sickness and death, no matter what Satan does. It’s a finished work.
John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
That’s the Word of God, and cannot be changed no matter what Satan does or threatens with.
Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
It’s a finished work no matter what Satan does. The moment the thoughts came out of the mouth of God as a Word, the work was as complete, even from before the foundation of the world.
John 17:24 “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.”
We beheld His glory on the Cross but was foreordained before the foundation of the world.
1 Peter 1:19-20 “But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: [20] Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,”
He therefore did not choose us when salvation was revealed to us, but even before the foundation of the world.
Ephesians 1:4 “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:”
And placed our names in the Lamb’s book of life even before the foundation of the world.
Revelation 13:8 “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
Everything Satan could do to Job was simply an empty threat and a bluff, for Job came from God and was going to God in full health no matter what Satan did.
God by His foreknowledge foresaw, and chose Job and every believer in Christ even from before the foundation of the world.
Let’s read:
Job 7:1-5 “Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling? [2] As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work: [3] So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me. [4] When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day. [5] My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.”
The bluff of Satan may feel like it has an outcome on our ultimate destination. The truth is it has no impact on our final destination because God by His foreknowledge knows our final destination, and have allowed test and trials to sharpen our faith.
We continue our reading:
Job 7:6-14 “My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope. [7] O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good. [8] The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not. [9] As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. [10] He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more. [11] Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. [12] Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me? [13] When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint; [14] Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:”
Satan at best is a scary movie. A bluff. He has no say in the final decisions of the life of the child of God.
Satan can scare with dreams and visions but the child of God does not have to believe him.
The child of God should let faith rest securely in the finished work of Christ. It is finished. Whatever Satan does today is simply too late.
We conclude our reading:
Job 7:15-21 “So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life. [16] I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity. [17] What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him? [18] And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment? [19] How long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle? [20] I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself? [21] And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.”
Like every man and woman, Job was tried. God tries our faith and He knows the outcome.
Job 1:8,12 “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? [12] And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.”
The Lord by foreknowledge knew exactly the outcome of this context even before Job was placed in the ring with Satan. All Job has to do is believe.
When Satan comes with his bluff, all the child of God in Christ has to do is believe that Satan is already defeated, nailed to the Cross of Christ.
Let faith be anchored securely on the finished work of Jesus Christ. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. It’s s finished work, and no one in Heaven or earth can change it.
Revelation 5:3-4 “And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. [4] And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.”
Only the Lamb who sealed you can open you.
Revelation 5:5-6 “And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. [6] And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.”
The Lamb Who was slain for the child of God from before the foundation of the world, has prevailed, and kept the believer sealed, till the day of our unsealing in His presence, in Christ!
