“Building God A House”
Reference: 1 Chronicles Chapter 22
The heart of men and women were to be the house of God. Jesus Christ went to the Cross so that men and women may become houses of God.
Jesus Christ as our example is the ultimate House of God.
John 2:19-22 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. [20] Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? [21] But he spake of the temple of his body. [22] When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.”
We build God a house by dying with Christ and resurrecting with Him by faith.
Romans 6:4-5,11-13 “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: [11] Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. [12] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. [13] Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”
Our old houses (hearts) must be destroyed (crucified) with Christ, and raised a new temple where God abide.
David makes preparation for Solomon to build God a house.
Let’s read:
1 Chronicles 22:1-5 “Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel. [2] And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God. [3] And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight; [4] Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David. [5] And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.”
David made preparations for a physical house but the Heavenly David through His sacrificial death prepared men and women to be spiritual houses of God,
1 Peter 2:5 “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”
With Jesus Christ as the Chief Cornerstone of each new house of God.
1 Peter 2:6 “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.”
We continue our reading:
1 Chronicles 22:6-9 “Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel. [7] And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God: [8] But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight. [9] Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.”
Solomon as a type of Christ was the man of peace. Jesus Christ shed no blood. He instead shed His blood to make us houses of God.
The house of God is built in us only by this Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6-7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. [7] Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
The house of God is built by the Prince of Peace through the work of the Holy Spirit
We continue our reading:
1 Chronicles 22:10 “He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.”
Jesus Christ is that Eternal Kingdom. He built God not just a house but many houses in men and women who have received Christ the Cornerstone.
We conclude our reading:
1 Chronicles 22:11-19 “Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee. [12] Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God. [13] Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed. [14] Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto. [15] Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of cunning men for every manner of work. [16] Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the LORD be with thee. [17] David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying, [18] Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people. [19] Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.”
The House is built to the Name of the Lord. That Name is Jesus Christ.
He died so that through His one death, many shall be raised into new houses of God.
Let the Word of God make you into a house of God. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The New houses of God, in Christ.
