“The Reproach of the Word”

Reference: 1 Chronicles Chapter 19

The Word of God is a reproach to the natural man. Throughout generations, God has always had a messenger. He sent prophet after prophet and they were all humiliated, tortured, and most killed. God ultimately sent His Son to bring the Word and He was crucified.

Acts 7:52 “Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:”

The Word is to bring comfort to man, but in unbelief, man perceives the Word is to deceive him.

David sends men to comfort and show kindness to the children of Ammon, but the servants are rejected and humiliated.

Let’s read:

1 Chronicles 19:1-3 “Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead. [2] And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him. [3] But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”

Like, the Son of God, Ammon rejected the kindness of David.

Isaiah 53:3 “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”

They did not believe John the Baptist. They even called him a devil. Being deceived by the devil, they called John the devil. They called light darkness, and darkness light.

Luke 7:33-34 “For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil. [34] The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!”

This is true for every generation. Today, they call the Baptism with the Holy Spirit the work of the devil.

Mark 3:28-30 “Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: [29] But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: [30] Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.”

The same rejection of the messenger of God. They call light darkness, and darkness light because of the same condition of unbelief.

We continue our reading:

1 Chronicles 19:4-6 “Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away. [5] Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return. [6] And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria–maachah, and out of Zobah.”

They realized they have crucified the Son of God. It was a little late.

Matthew 27:54 “Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.”

Man sought quickly to cover himself again with the same fig leaves.

Matthew 27:62-66 “Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, [63] Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. [64] Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. [65] Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. [66] So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.”

The chief priests and Pharisees called Christ “the deceiver” not knowing they were deceived by the devil.
The same is true today. In their deception, most so calked churches and priests call the Baptism with the Holy Spirit an evil spirit.

We conclude our reading:

1 Chronicles 19:7-19 “So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle. [8] And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men. [9] And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field. [10] Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians. [11] And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon. [12] And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee. [13] Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight. [14] So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him. [15] And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem. [16] And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them. [17] And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him. [18] But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host. [19] And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.”

The true messenger of God will never be accepted by the ecclesiastical church.

Let the Word of God bring you to the Holy Spirit Baptism Who is God’s Messenger today.

Luke 24:45-49 “Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, [46] And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: [47] And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. [48] And ye are witnesses of these things. [49] And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The Holy Spirit in a man or woman is always rejected by many, in Christ!
