“God stands by His Word”

Reference: 2 Chronicles Chapter 21

We are not saved because we feel like we are saved. We are saved because of the Word of God.

God stands by His Word.

The world will never be destroyed again by flood because of God’s covenant Word with Noah.

Genesis 9:11-17 “And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. [12] And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: [13] I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. [14] And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: [15] And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. [16] And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. [17] And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.”

He is a covenant keeping God. He is a Word keeping God.

Every Word of God is a covenant. For God stands behind every one of His Words.

Heaven and earth shall pass away but not His Word.

If we apply our faith to His Word , every Promise of God shall be fulfilled in our lives.

God promised the house of David an everlasting Covenant.

2 Samuel 7:15-17 “But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. [16] And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. [17] According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.”

The Everlasting Covenant was pointing to Jesus Christ, the Word of God, the Son of David.

Matthew 22:41-46 “While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, [42] Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. [43] He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, [44] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? [45] If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? [46] And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.”

Because He is God in the flesh. Before He was the Son of David, He was the Lord of David. He is the Everlasting Covenant Word promised to the house of David.

Not even the sins of Azariah could break that Covenant with David.

Let’s read:

2 Chronicles 21:1-4 “Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. [2] And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel. [3] And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn. [4] Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.”

Like Cain who slew his brother, Azariah murdered all his brothers. For they both have the same father.

John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

The father of every man or woman who is not in Christ is the devil. There are only two seeds. Either we are in the See of the woman Who is Christ, or we in the seed of the Serpent who is the devil.

Genesis 3:14-15 “And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: [15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

Every seed of the Serpent is capable of murder.

We continue our reading:

2 Chronicles 21:5-7 “Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. [6] And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD. [7] Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.”

Not even the sins of Azariah could wipe away the  Covenant. God keeps His Promise.
The forever Covenant promised to David is established in Christ. That’s the faithfulness of God.

Lamentations 3:21-23 “This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. [22] It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [23] They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

God’s great Promises are the pardons of God to humanity.

We continue our reading:

2 Chronicles 21:8-18 “In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king. [9] Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots. [10] So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers. [11] Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto. [12] And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, [13] But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thyself: [14] Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods: [15] And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day. [16] Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians: [17] And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons. [18] And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.”

He is Just to those who rejects His Mercy. His justice requires sin to be paid for. By His Mercy, He has placed every sin on Christ for those who would elect for His Mercy be receiving Jesus Christ.

In sin, we elect for the justice of God. We do not want His justice. We only want His Mercy, which is only in Christ.

We conclude our reading:

2 Chronicles 21:19-20 “And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. [20] Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.”

Nothing worse than the death of a sinner.

Let the Word of God draw you to His Mercy. BELIEVE and confess Christ the Word as we’ve revealed Him from the First Adam. The  Covenant of Mercy, in Christ!
